Last night the temperature dropped into the low 50s, and the high today barely made it to 70º. Overnight, shorts and tank tops gave way to jeans and long sleeves. It’s a bit of a visual surprise after months and months of skimpy clothing. At church tonight almost everyone was wearing long trousers and long sleeves. I know those of you from northern climes are laughing at us wimpy Texans. This would still be summer weather for you.
I had an errand to run this morning, and when I stepped out of the house I had to rethink my plan. I came inside and put on a jacket for the first time since spring. I’m not complaining. I love the cooler weather as long as I have warm clothing. Maybe it’s about time for me to pull out my winter clothes.
I had several projects to work on this morning, and when I went to do my exercise, for the first time in months I didn’t have to have a fan blowing on me.
Walter stayed on campus for lunch, having taken the cake over there this morning. The cake went over pretty well.
This afternoon I severely pruned my bougainvillea, since I will soon have to bring it inside, but first I took a photo of the very last blossoms of the year:
We had our church dinner this evening, and for the first time since summer I was able to eat something. We had grilled pork chops so I just had the meat. Plain meat I can eat!

Back in the spring, I planted some marigold seeds in the empty spaces on our strawberry tower. They are the weirdest marigolds I’ve ever seen. All summer they’ve been growing like vines, longer and longer, without flowering. Now they are flowering at last. This one originates in the top middle of the photo, swoops down and then heads south to finally blossom over the chrysanthemum.
