The Three-Hour Lunch
And #49
So, this morning I had a little more hand sewing to do. (Aldi? What about Aldi? I didn’t even think about Aldi.) I was sewing on a frog:
Because of the thickness of the frog and the thickness of the fabric, it is not a fun task. But I was so eager to get it done. The result isn’t perfect, but I have reluctantly had to stop expecting perfection from myself.
Robin came over for tea at 10:00. I waited until then to have my glorious morning mug of tea. And I also finally had a chance to knit a few rows, because I was done with the sewing. In fact, I was wearing my new skirt.
After Robin left I packaged up the cloak I’d made and set off to meet my friend Carrie for lunch. She lives in Tyler so we met at a barbeque place in between our two towns. I had made her a cloak because I wanted to thank her for being my most loyal blog reader. Carrie has been reading my blog daily for a long time—I’m sure over ten years. She reads it every day and “likes” it on social media. This is a great encouragement for me. Sometimes I feel like my words are just going out into the void. But every single day, I see that Carrie has read and “liked” my blog entry.
And why a cloak? Because we met through the Renaissance Faire, and I know she’ll use it. I keep a list of all the cloaks I’ve made, and when I checked it after finishing this cloak, I discovered that this is cloak #49. That’s a lot of cloaks I’ve made over the years. And most of them have been named. This one is the Mélange Cloak, because if you look at the fabric from a distance, it appears grey, but if you look closer up you can see it’s woven from black, white, red, green, blue and yellow threads. I had to guess at Carrie’s height (she’s a lot shorter than me) and that worked out okay.
So anyway, we had some excellent brisket and talked for three hours. She understands a little of what we’re going through because she has had cancer herself. It was such a nice little break to get away and spend some time visiting with a friend.
Then I drove home, surprised to find puddles in our street. While I was gone, they had a big rainstorm there that dropped two inches of rain! We didn’t have any rain in Kilgore.
I had some tea but did not need any supper after all that good brisket. Then Walter and I ended up watching a movie that went on longer than we expected, so now it’s late and I have to get up and go to Aldi in the morning. I’m hoping it won’t be too busy at opening time on the fourth of July.
