Settling In
Well, now I’ve caught up. There are several trip-related posts that I still intend to write, but for now I am glad to be home in my ancient chair where I can write with my feet up.
I slept in till almost 8:00 this morning, after going to bed at 10:00 last night. It’s funny how tired we both were after doing our best to sleep on the plane.
Today was about what you’d expect. We did three loads of laundry and some other housework. I worked on a list and then went shopping at Aldi. I made a pan of brownies so the guys will have something for dessert. I thawed out something for them to have for dinner. I paid all the bills and sorted out our finances. From here on out, we’re on a fixed income and will have to be very careful.
Walter inspected the yard and identified a lot of work that needs doing, so he’ll be busy for a few days. And I started getting some stuff ready to mail. There are three family birthdays this month.
What am I enjoying so far? Air conditioning, being able to drink tap water and use it for brushing my teeth, hot showers, and 24-hour electricity! What am I missing? So many lovely people. The shorter days and cool mornings of dry season. The best cream and butter I’ve ever had. The fires. And the incredible billions of stars in the southern hemisphere night sky.
I didn’t take this photo. I stole it from someone else who was there at the same time. I haven’t mastered taking star photos yet. Mostly because I didn’t have room for a tripod on this trip.
