First off, I need to apologize for not posting my Monday essay last night. What with being on the road last week, I didn’t feel I had time to finish it thoughtfully. I hope to have it ready by next Monday.
The big event of the morning was Walter’s doctor’s appointment. It was very lengthy, but not terribly helpful. They drew blood for labs, but didn’t ask for a stool sample which I would have thought was a basic necessity for someone with gut issues. In fact the doctor didn’t really seem interested in his gut issues at all. She did advise him to go to the emergency room for his leg swelling. His right leg has been swelling up regularly since our Colorado trip. So we might do that tomorrow.
Anyway, he didn’t learn much today except that his A1C is 5.6, which is not great but not terrible either. And his blood pressure was good. However, he did come home with a swag bag full of random stuff:
And the bag itself is also a reusable tote bag. Maybe we can take the word search book to the hospital tomorrow . . .
Meanwhile, Jasper is not feeling well, and has only come downstairs to make tea today. He has a respiratory infection, which in his case always means losing what little hearing he normally has. Whatever he has, I hope we don’t get it. He didn’t want any supper.
This afternoon, while Walter worked on painting a second coat on the trim on the west side of the house, I went to Hobby Lobby to get a few things needed for my sewing project. I needed two kinds of trim, and was delighted to find exactly what I needed. Until I returned home and discovered that I had written down the wrong amount for one of them. Which meant I had to go all the way back up there and get some more. I hate it when I make dumb mistakes like that. But at least I got outside and noticed that we already have some zinnias blooming:
This evening I worked on the first sewing project—just adding some trim to a cute little dress I found at Aldi:
Tomorrow I’ll cut out the other dress and hopefully get started on the actual sewing.
Joy Spark: This morning I had a response to our newsletter from a friend I hadn’t heard from in many years. I had no idea her email address was still valid, but I went ahead and sent a newsletter “just in case.” I was so tickled to hear from her.

Our Aldi lilies were worth every penny!
