My (Brief) Modeling Career
Today was another chilly chilly day. The birds and squirrels cleaned out the seed in the saucer. I probably should have replenished it, but by the time I thought about it I was nice and warm and didn’t want to go back out into the cold.
I did go to the post office this morning, and noticed this on the side of our house:
Drips from that faucet had formed a cute little mound of ice. We didn’t get out of the low 30s all day.
This afternoon I had my photography class. Last Thursday, the lesson was on analogous colors, and I happened to be wearing an analogous outfit that day. I knew today’s topic would be complimentary colors, so I dressed accordingly. I wore a burgundy skirt (with sweatpants underneath!), a dark green turtleneck, and a fuzzy burgundy cardigan with a green dragon pin:
If you’ve ever wondered what kind of person orders those cheap Chinese trinkets that keep popping up on Facebook—well, now you know.
Anyway, we went over everyone’s homework photos in class. This was mine, which followed instructions exactly:
The instructor liked it. However, my former student Isaac put the rest of us to shame. He submitted a photo he took—by moonlight—of a thunderstorm over the ocean. It was stunning.
At the end of class, one of my classmates approached me and asked if I could spare a few minutes. I was a little surprised as we had never interacted at all. Turns out she noticed my complimentary color outfit and wanted to photograph me for her homework assignment.
We walked outside and she took a few shots. She also complimented me on my dragon pin. Her name is Ruth. And my unexpected career in modeling lasted at most five minutes. I’m betting Ruth will find something better to submit for homework, but now I know her name! That makes three classmates whose names I know now.
Meanwhile, I had the dehydrator going all day to make more beef crackers for my trip. I always pack way more food than I need. It’s probably rooted in my Africa days, when a road trip came with the likelihood of breaking down and possibly being stranded for an indefinite period of time.
I also boiled some eggs (some for me and some for the guys), and threw together a few items for my photography class assignment and then took a series of photos. I didn’t have time to go out searching for complimentary colors, so I had to use what was in the house and I fear it’s not very imaginative.
Tomorrow I will be silent as I am driving to Memphis and will be spending time with my cousin Mark and his family. Thursday I will drive the rest of the way to my dad’s place.
