Gearing Up
I am happy to report that I felt somewhat better today. Maybe not back to normal, but back to functional.
My first task of the day was driving to Walmart before it got too hot. I needed to buy some powdered milk so I could mix up a batch of chai mix. I figure I will make it available at my book sale on Saturday, and if people don’t want books, maybe they’ll go for chai mix.
I tried making bulletproof coffee to have with my breakfast. Actually it wasn’t the classic bulletproof recipe—it included eggs. I was experimenting to see if I could tolerate coffee without cream. The eggs and butter made it drinkable. But I’d still much rather have tea.
By lunchtime I had made the chai mix, whizzed it in the blender, and gotten it all packaged. Meanwhile, Walter was working on painting the entryway and door frame. I think tomorrow might be door painting day. And Jasper had another yard to do this morning. Hot and tired when he returned.
Then it was time to start working on sorting books for the book sale. I have multiple copies of many books from the days when I was teaching literature. It’s a bit painful to think of getting rid of them. But I think my teaching days are mostly over. I have so many more books to go through. There are quite a few that I had been saving for future grandchildren, but there’s no point in keeping them now.
I also pulled out our rather large collection of kids’ VHS tapes. If anyone that comes to the sale still has a VHS player, they’ll hit a gold mine.
So it’s been a relatively productive day. I have three more days to go through hundreds of books and homeschool resources and get them all priced and labeled. Deep breath. I can do it.
Joy Spark: Today’s joy spark was a phone call from my friend Tamra. She’s always such a breath of fresh air—ever since we were in high school.

Another of my restored photos. This is me with my maternal grandparents when they came to visit me in South Carolina in 1977.
