Forty-Five
& A Technological Rescue
Today is our actual anniversary, but since we celebrated yesterday, it was a pretty ordinary Saturday. Jasper went to his yard job this morning and to the local Comic Con this afternoon. I went to Walmart to get what I hadn’t got at Aldi. Walter did some reading this morning while waiting for the grass to dry, and then mowed both lawns.
I got a sewing project cut out and another one planned (did the math). I also spent some time reading. I’m not allowing myself to read fiction at the moment, but I am reading a book on writing which was quite expensive, in hopes that it will help me with a writing problem. It has definitely got me thinking, but let’s just say the author doesn’t have as complete a grasp of English grammar as he thinks he does. And he keeps bashing his mother, which is very tiresome to me, as a mother. However, I will persevere.
My main project of the day was to haul out our wedding photo album in hopes of scanning some photos that I could share here today. It turned into a whole big thing. Because when I pulled the album off the bookcase, all the pages just leapt out of it and fell to the floor. Apparently sometime over the last 45 years, it just disintegrated. Well, then I figured I might as well scan all the photos and try to salvage them digitally.
Still working on that. However, I did scan a few photos and try to color-correct them. They looked better, but not great. Then I remembered that I had recently received an email from ChatGPT offering to edit photos for me. I’m not a huge fan of AI, but I also can’t afford to pay someone to restore my old wedding photos. So I gave it a try.
Y’all. Here is one of the photos I uploaded:
And this is what I got back:
Wow. Now the downside, as I’ve learned, is that I can only do 5 photos every 24 hours for free. So this will take some time. But once it’s all done, I can upload all the restored photos and have them made into a printed photo book.
Here’s one of us with both our families:
And I think this is the only one of just the two of us:
Now since today is our anniversary, I’ve been remembering other anniversaries. Ten years ago, for our 35th anniversary our kids (who all still loved us back then) banded together to give us a wonderful road trip to South Dakota, where we stayed at a ranch where our daughter was working for the summer. It was an amazing trip. We got to see the Badlands, Custer State Park, and of course, Mount Rushmore:
Remember this was ten years ago. That was when I was diabetic and having to take insulin twice a day. I don’t miss that at all.
Today, none of our offspring even sent us a “happy anniversary” text. Times have changed.
Last year, of course, we celebrated in Zambia and we plan to do so again next year!
Joy Spark: Walter’s leg was less swollen today for the first time since March. The medication must be working.
Parting Shot:
One last shot from our trip ten years ago. Despite assurances that we’d see lots of buffalo, this is the only one we actually saw.
