All Sorted
Walter felt quite a bit better today, although by late afternoon he was definitely lagging. Hopefully by tomorrow he will be a-ok.
And Facebook reminded me that 5 years ago today, I had my cardiac ablation. So far so good—I’ve only had one a-fib episode in those 5 years, that I know of.
I had to make a quick run to the post office this morning, and was delighted to find that the lobby is open again, although quite a few ceiling tiles are missing. I spent most of the morning sorting Duplo after I finished my Bible reading.
Today’s reading was Jonah, Micah, and Nahum. And every time I read the book of Jonah, I remember a sermon I heard on it decades ago now. Here was Jonah, one of the most successful missionaries of all time, and when God accepted the repentance of Nineveh and withdrew the promised judgment, Jonah was furious. But when God sent a vine to grow with supernatural speed to shade Jonah, he was thrilled. The point the preacher made was that if you want to know what kind of person you are (or anyone else), ask what makes you happy—and what makes you angry. I think about that often.
Walter has been having a lot of trouble with his computer, and this morning thought he might have to replace it, but it turned out that when he disconnected his second monitor, it seems to work fine. So he is just using one monitor now—like I do all the time.
This evening after supper I finally finished all the Duplo sorting. This is not even all of it, but I wanted to give you some idea of the scope:
I also set aside a small box of pieces to keep here at the house in case we ever have visitors with young children—which I hope we do sometime! Packing all those blocks and pieces away again has been bittersweet. I’m sure Flynn’s family will enjoy them for a while. But to us, they are so full of memories—not just of our kids playing with them but of the financial sacrifices we made for years so that our kids could have quality toys to play with despite our limited income.
Joy Spark: We had a thunderstorm this afternoon! It didn’t last long, but it was wonderful while it lasted.
Parting Shot:
In among the Duplo I found a few wooden blocks. We had given the blocks to Flynn and Tiffany, so I asked if they still had them, thinking I could bring the few stragglers next time we visit. Alas, they had to give the blocks away because the girls were using them as weapons (!!!), but Flynn said he kept one for the sake of childhood memories and had it on a shelf near his desk. So I thought I’d do the same. These four blocks are a memorial to the years when our house was full of creative, enthusiastic kids.
